Failures... and New Year's Resolutions!

So, as you can probably tell from the lack of posts, I have failed at my diet/exercise plan. I gave up due to the hustle and bustle that surrounds Christmas, and I decided that I would start again at the New Year. However, I think that the failure wasn't simply due to timing. I think that I set goals that were too high for myself. Exercising and eating right every day was too big of a step for me to make right now. This time around, I'm planning on exercising 3-4 days a week, and I'll still be trying to stay under 1200 calories/day. Also, in terms of the exercise, an hour a day was also too big of a goal, so I'm going to be happy with getting any exercise done.

January 1, 2014 will be the first day, and I'll blog about how it goes on the 2nd. Wish me luck!

Days Three, Four, and Five!

Sorry about the delayed posts... but on Day Three I got a stomach bug, and haven't been feeling up to blogging...

Day Three went well in the beginning... I woke up and felt a little nauseous, so I made myself a cup of tea. After that I exercised by doing a 10 minute warm up, followed by 10 minutes of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), and then a 10 minute cool down. After that I had half of a quesadilla, and later I had some raviolis. After that I was still feeling a little nauseous, but I mistook that for hunger. Will and I went out to dinner at Fuddruckers (not healthy... my bad), and after that I got really really nauseous.

That night I got really sick, and spent most of the night, and the next day, in the bathroom.

On Day Four I didn't exercise at all. I barely got out of bed even. All that I consumed was a bottle of gatorade, and in the late afternoon I finally felt up for a bowl of chicken noodle soup.

On Day Five I feel mostly better, but I still do not feel up for exercising as I still do not have full control of my bowels... (TMI? No such thing). I have also not eaten very much today. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get back to business.

Day Two!

Today went a little bit better than yesterday. I exercised as soon as I woke up, and then did some chores. I didn't end up eating breakfast since I was able to sleep in. The exercise was still pretty hard, but I was able to go faster than I did yesterday. For exercise, I did the elliptical again, but only thirty minutes. After the thirty minutes I did some strength training.

For lunch I had top ramen... Which isn't super healthy but it was really cold in the apartment and it sounded really good. After that I had a cup of black tea with sugar and milk, and for a snack I had some teddy grahams. On Wednesdays we go to my boyfriend's parents' for dinner. We had steak with french fries. Then for dessert Will and I shared a vanilla malt.

Day One!

Today was my first official day of vacation, so I ended up having a really lazy day. Sure I did a few chores around the house, and I even left the house for a quick errand... but the rest of the time I was in pajamas watching tv. Today was really difficult in that I really didn't want to exercise or eat healthy, but instead felt like watching every video on YouTube was a good goal (okay, and exaggeration, but you see my point).

Exercising was so hard! You don't realize how out of shape you are until you're on the elliptical and its on a low setting and you think you're going to die. I know my goal was to exercise for one hour every day, but I couldn't. I did complete a 45 min preset workout on the elliptical, which I feel good about... but I may be the slowest ellipticizer in the world. I did feel good about the workout afterwards, but during I was really grumpy and pessimistic.

For food, I started the day off pretty well. I woke up and had a homemade vanilla latte for breakfast, and for lunch I had leftover chicken and a salad. But then my sweet tooth kicked in and I decided I should eat some mini peanut butter snickers and kitkats. Then... for dinner I had a hot turkey sandwich, which consisted of turkey, laughing cow cheese, pepper and cayenne on sourdough bread... No vegetables... But protein? ...Healthy? After that my Christmas baking kicked in and I decided I should make chocolate chip cookies... and then on Pinterest I found a recipe for toffee... and I decided I should make that too. And then half of my first batch failed, so I had to make a second one. Later this evening I will most likely eat said cookies and toffee... and maybe some popcorn.

All in all, Day One may not have been the healthiest start... but at least I got out of bed to exercise? And I drank over 2 liters of water! Yay hydration! Come back tomorrow evening for what is hopefully a healthier day!

Oh, as a note, to log my food and exercise, I'm using the MyFitnessPal app. It's free in the app store, or you can use an account online, and it really helps because it has pretty much every food you can think of, or at least the components of recipes, so it makes it easy to log. I also have a Fitbit Flex bracelet that tracks my activities, and a Fitbit Aria scale that syncs my weight to my Fitbit app.

Breakfast: For breakfast I had a latte I made using my Nespresso, 1/3 cup of milk, and Starbucks vanilla syrup. This adds to 121 calories.

Dinner: Turkey sandwich. 483 calories.
Snacks: 2 snickers peanut butter, 3 mini kitkats. Chocolate chip cookies. 610 calories

Winter Break 2013

So this year I've been meaning to exercise and eat right... and pretty much like every year I didn't keep up with it. So I've decided that over Winter Break I'm going to at least exercise for one hour every day and I'm going to try and drink at least two liters of water a day. Of course I'm also going to try to be aware of what I'm eating/eat healthier, but who knows how that will work out.

To make sure that I keep up with it, I've created this blog where I'll be doing daily posts about my exercise/diet. While it may not be interesting to read, I think it will help me stick to my plan. My last final is on the 16th, so I'll begin posting the 17th. My friends Kelly (kellybracha.blogspot.com) and Kenzi (kenziellisworkout.blogspot.com) are trying this out as well, so follow them too! Wish us luck!
